Gas Leak, Fire Force Evacuation In Lyons

LYONS, Ill. (CBS) -- The storms overnight are blamed for a gas leak that erupted into a fire Thursday in Lyons.
The gas leak sprang near a storage facility at 1st Avenue and 43rd Street in Lyons in the predawn hours, fire officials said. A fire was raging by the 6 a.m. hour.
At least one resident had to be evacuated as the fire raged, and police closed off 1st Avenue between 47th Street and Plainfield Road.
Nicor gas spokeswoman Annette Martinez said the storms overnight were to blame for the gas leak and fire. The fire was being contained by Lyons firefighters, while Nicor crews shut down three meters as a precautionary measure.
With the area contained, Nicor was working on fixing the gas main damage during the midday hours.
No injuries were reported in connection with the fire.
