Gas Leak Evacuates Rotary Building In Downtown Evanston
EVANSTON, Ill. (CBS) -- A gas leak shut forced the evacuation of a high-rise office building in the heart of downtown Evanston Friday.
Around 11 a.m. Friday, a construction crew hit a high-pressure gas main in front of the Rotary Building, at 1560 Sherman Ave. in Evanston.
The building, which houses the international headquarters for Rotary International, had to be evacuated and was closed for the rest of the day.
The intersections of Sherman Avenue with Grove and Davis streets also had to be closed, as Peoples Gas, ComEd and Evanston life safety crews worked to repair the main.
