Gary Schools Scrap Summer Programs Due To Budget Woes
GARY, Ind. (CBS) -- Summer school in Gary, Ind., isn't what it used to be, and a budget deficit is to blame.

With the schools cash-strapped, authorities have cut so called summer enrichment programs. Band classes are out, a popular alternative languages course has been scrapped, as has a science and math program.
Gary Schools Superintendent Myrtle Campbell tells the Northwest Indiana Post-Tribune that low tax collections and deep state budget cuts are to blame.
A total of $20 million in budget cuts are slated for next year.
