Gary Murder Victim's Uncle Missing
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Police in Gary, Indiana, were asking the public to help them find a Texas man who has been missing for more than a week, ever since his nephew was stabbed to death.
Carlos Verduzco, 40, hasn't been seen since Jan. 31, when he and his nephew asked a friend to drive them to northwest Indiana to collect a debt.
When they got to the location near Hammond, a confrontation took place, and his nephew, 26-year-old Fernando Verduzco, was later found dead in the back of an abandoned car found in the Ivanhoe Nature Preserve in Gary. Fernando had been stabbed multiple times.
Around 9 p.m. on Jan. 31, the friend, a 26-year-old Bridgeview man, turned up with his throat cut. He survived the wound, and told police he had been attacked with a knife and stuffed into the trunk of his own car, and survived by playing dead. When the car stopped near Cline and Chicago avenues in Gary, he was able to get free and jump out of the car.
Carlos Verduzco's older and younger sisters spoke out Monday, hoping to find out what happened to their brother and nephew.
"We just want to bring him home. My parents are heartbroken, as well as all the family. Whichever way we find him, we just want him home. We need to give our family closure," Graciela Verduzco said.
Carlos Verduzco, who lives in Laredo, Texas, has a wife and six children.
His family said he was the life of every party he attended, and would have everyone laughing in a matter of minutes. Now, his friends and family are crying, wanting to know exactly what happened to him.
