Gary Man Charged In Homewood Murder
HOMEWOOD, Ill. (STMW) -- A 19-year-old Gary man has been charged with murder in the June 18 shooting death of Homewood resident Henry Kormoi, Homewood police said.
LaMar Wilson, of the 4900 block of Washington Street, was charged Thursday, two days after being arrested by U.S. marshals in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, according to police.
Kormoi, 19, was shot about 11:10 p.m. near his home in the 1100 block of 187th Street and was pronounced dead about 40 minutes later at South Suburban Hospital in Hazel Crest, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office. It said an autopsy showed that Kormoi died of a gunshot wound to the head.
Police did not indicate a possible motive in the slaying but said Kormoi knew Wilson.
On June 14, Kormoi was charged with possession and sale of marijuana after police saw him make a transaction with another man at Riegel Road and Ashland Avenue, police said.
They said Kormoi was riding on a bicycle, stopped to make the deal and then tried to flee after officers approached.
