Gary Man Charged In Deadly Double Shooting
GARY, Ind. (STMW) -- A northwest Indiana man who recently completed a 20-year prison term for murder is wanted on a new murder charge in the Monday shooting death of Damian Reedus.
Anthony T. Williams, 28, was charged Wednesday with murder, attempted murder, carjacking, aggravated battery, battery by means of a deadly weapon and criminal recklessness.
A warrant has been issued for his arrest, the Post-Tribune is reporting.
Reedus, 34, and his girlfriend were in the woman's minivan with Williams about 3:30 a.m. Monday when Williams shot Reedus in the back of the head, then told the girlfriend, "You have to die, too. You saw my face," and shot her in the neck, the probable cause affidavit states.
The woman said Reedus and Williams had borrowed her van earlier that night and returned to her about 3 a.m. She was driving them home and stopped for gasoline at 21st Avenue and Vermont Street, a block north of Reedus' home.
Williams told her he was staying with Reedus, but as they drove in that direction, he said he was going home instead, the affidavit states.
"When they got to the stop sign, Anthony shot Damian twice," then shot her. She jumped out and ran toward a house and rang the doorbell, while Williams took the driver's seat and left with Reedus in the van. Police found the van, with Reedus in the passenger seat, parked in the 1900 block of Pennsylvania Street about 9:30 a.m.
Earlier that morning, police discovered Andre Woods' body dumped on Georgia Street north of Interstate 94, about a mile from the double shooting. Until they were able to examine the victim, police believed it was Reedus on the side of the road.
Detective Lorenzo Davis is continuing to investigate Woods' death, which police believe is related to the other incidents.
Williams recently completed a prison sentence for the murder of Theophis Strain, 26, on Dec. 22, 2004. He was sentenced to 20 years and completed his parole in September, Department of Correction records show.
