Gary Called Most 'Under-Policed' City In Nation
CHICAGO (CBS) -- A new study concludes that Gary, Ind., is the most under-policed city in the country.

Researchers at the University of California Berkeley examined crime rates, the number of officers and other socioeconomic factors.
They found a quarter of Gary residents' income is lost to crime--nearly $4,400 per person.
That cost would include things like pain and suffering for crime victims, or the price to replace a stolen car or other property.
The study says hiring more officers or re-deploying its 215 existing officers could cut the city's crime costs
