Gatica's co-defendant and fellow Maniac Latin Disciple, Berly Valladares, was sentenced to 70 years in prison for the murder in June.
Valladares had supplied Gatica, 21, with the TEC-9 semiautomatic handgun used in the shootings, according to Cook County prosecutors.
Valencia's family said he dreamed of running for office so he could serve as a voice for Latino youth. Valencia was set to receive the Lincoln Laureate Award when he was slain.
