Gammons: White Sox Have Reached Turning Point
CHICAGO (WSCR) -- Baseball analyst Peter Gammons says he thinks the White Sox have reached a turning point, and should be given credit for their pitching.
"I think it's a turning point to some degree," Gammons said of the White Sox season on the Mully & Hanley Show. "I still think the pitching will be there for the bulk of the season, and they're starting to hit a little bit, and I think that's really important."

The Cleveland Indians have the best record in the American League, and the Kansas City Royals have the fifth best. But Gammons said, "I don't think either one has the depth of the pitching that the White Sox have."
Gammons also discussed some of the changes in baseball in recent years, particularly that strikeouts are becoming more acceptable.
"I think the game has changed a little bit," he said. "I think in the steroid era, the point is well taken, because I think it got into whole Jason Giambi – look I've got 120 walks, I have 170 strikeouts, I hit 40 bombs, and that's what's really important…. That style was appropriate. I think more and more… they're trying to find guys who do make contact."
Gammons also weighed in on former White Sox pitcher Bartolo Colón's use of stem cells to repair his injured right shoulder.
"This time… it looks like he's going to be very effective, but I think it's going to be very interesting as Major League Baseball pursues exactly what this operation was. As we know, there are a lot of things you can buy in other countries that are illegal in this country, so it's going to be very interesting to see what the doctor actually did to Colón," Gammons said.
