Gammons: Ozzie's Fires Take 'Heat Off The Players'

CHICAGO (WSCR) After sweeping the Boston Red Sox, the Chicago White Sox will return home with a 10-game homestand. They're coming back to U.S. Cellular Field with a little more hope than they left with, and with a little less pressure on the players' shoulders.

The homestand starts with the Detroit Tigers, the team directly in ahead of them in the standings.

"It's a good homestand," Peter Gammons, of the MLB Network, said on the Mully and Hanley Show. "Detroit has great starting."

The White Sox stopped their horrific early struggles and have somewhat stabilized themselves. But despite not making up much ground in the standings, there's a sense that they'll eventually start playing like they were expected to.

"I just think that there's something there," Gammons said. "I just found a lot of life in that team."

And if all of a sudden the focus has shifted off of the players' under-performance, well that might be part of Ozzie Guillen's plan.

"It's so funny watching Ozzie go from city to city," Gammons said. "Because he just goes and starts all these fires, like a guy running around staring fires in trash cans. Everybody chases the fires, and it kind of takes the heat off the players."

Other than the Tigers, the White Sox will face off against the Seattle Mariners and Oakland Athletic's on this homestand.
