Gammons: Gillick, Hendry Would Make A Good Match
(WSCR) After 670 The Score's David Schuster reported this week that Pat Gillick had contact with the Cubs, speculation has spread that he would be a perfect fit to come and rebuild the team.
MLB Network's Peter Gammons knows Gillick well and believes the longtime baseball executive would have serious interest in joining the Cubs.
"I think he definitely would. I really believe that.," Gammon said on The Mully and Hanley Show. "See, I think one of the things Pat could do, he's a master organizer. If you look at his history, I mean he built the Toronto Blue Jays from scratch, but you look at what he did in Baltimore, Seattle, Philadelphia -- he went in and sort of oversaw everything. There weren't massive firings. He doesn't have a little circle of friends who go everywhere with him. He tends to work with the people that he inherits."

That may not excite Cubs fans who are hoping to see both manager Mike Quade and general manager Jim Hendry get fired. In fact, Gammons thinks Hendry and Gillick would make a good pair.
"Where Jim Hendry's strengths are, in terms of scouting, he would probably stay and work with Pat. It makes a lot of sense and maybe you groom the next star, GM, whatever," Gammons said.
