Funeral Set For Wednesday For Reverend Andrew Greeley
CHICAGO (STMW) -- A funeral has been scheduled for Wednesday for Chicago priest, best-selling author, noted sociologist and long-time Sun-Times columnist Father Andrew Greeley who died last Thursday.
Greeley -- who had been in poor health after snagging his coat in the door of a taxicab and being dragged after it pulled away in 2008 -- died early Thursday at his condo in the John Hancock Building. He was 85.
Greeley, who was also a college professor, was an outspoken-yet-tolerated critic of Catholic hierarchy and doctrine.
His wake is set for Tuesday from 3-8 p.m. at Christ the King Catholic Church at 9235 S. Hamilton Ave.
Greeley's funeral mass will be Wednesday at noon at Christ the King with visitation from 9:30 a.m. until noon.
