Frustrated By Traffic, People Leave Cars And Walk On Expressway To O'Hare
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Traffic to O'Hare was so backed up this morning between about 6 a.m. and 7 that people were getting out of cars and walking from the I-190 extension to the airport.
Chicago Police say they assisted roughly 70 pedestrians who decided to get out of vehicles on the jammed-up I-190 extension - and walk to O'Hare.

A police spokesman says officers gave pedestrians rides to the terminals.
The area has been undergoing reconstruction.
Illinois State Police Master Sergeant S. Nowak says state police were getting the same calls about passengers leaving cars on the I-190 extension.
"We're sending troopers from the Kennedy Expressway as well as the Edens Expressway to check on the pedestrians walking because obviously that is unsafe. And we would advise the people not to get out of their vehicles on an interstate and to stay in their vehicle because it is not safe and we don't want to put anyone in jeopardy."
Master Sergeant Nowack says better to be late for a flight than hit by a car on the expressway.
As Laura Vaughn has been reporting in traffic, things are much better now.
