Friends Pay Tribute To Fatally Shot Columbia College Student
CHICAGO (CBS) -- He was just going to pick up a friend, but he never made it.
19-year-old Columbia College student Kevin Ambrose was killed by a drive-by shooter late last night.
"I followed the damn blueprint. My kid still got killed. What the hell am I supposed to do," said Ebony Ambrose, victim's mother.
Her son Kevin walked to the 47th Green Line stop when shots rang out.
He was going to pick up his friend Michael.
"'Michael call somebody, I can't breathe.' That's the final thing he said. He was coming to get me," said Michael Dye, the victim's friend.
His friends gathered for a tribute called The Lyricist Loft and mom, a tenor of pain for a son on the right path until he picked up a friend.
"His life was never turned the wrong way. Never," said Ebony Ambrose. "Whoever did this is just worthless. Don't kill my kid. Don't kill the good kids. If you feel life is whatever and you don't care kill your damn self. That's what they should do, stop killing the good kids. It hurts to know that he died with fear in his heart. He shouldn't have had to died like that. It hurts. It hurts like hell."
No arrests have been made in connection with the shooting.
Kevin's mother said he was in the process of switching his major at Columbia College to criminal justice because he wanted to be a police officer.
