Friends, Family Say Goodbye To Innocent Teen Killed By Gang Gunfire
CHICAGO (CBS) – Friends and family on Thursday celebrated the life of a 15-year-old girl who became an innocent victim of gang gunfire.
CBS 2's Brad Edwards was there as Porshe Foster was eulogized.
Inside St. Mark's, a woman at the pulpit said the teen would have been surprised at the turnout.
Shay, as she was known, was a sophomore in high school, a straight-A student, an aspiring architect, and an athlete. Last week, she was in the backyard of a home in the 7000 block of South Campbell Avenue with several people when an unknown male approached and opened fire on the group, striking her in the back.
The girl was taken in critical condition to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn where she later died.
"It's very hard to keep coming to funerals, to keep coming to memorials, to keep meeting parents, to keep marching, " Foster's cousin, Camiella Williams, said. "And there's nothing that's being done."
Now that Foster will be laid to rest, the focus is to catch her killer.
