Freon Leak Closes Library In Oak Forest
OAK FOREST, Ill. (STMW) -- The Acorn Public Library in south suburban Oak Forest is closed Tuesday because of a Freon gas leak from the heat and air-conditioning system.
No one was injured and just three people were in the building when the leak occurred, library director Paul Mills said.
The library plans to reopen at 9 a.m. Wednesday.
Fire and hazardous material crews were called to the library about 7:30 a.m. Tuesday when a contractor installing a new sprinkler system hit a line in the HVAC system that released refrigerant gas, Mills said.
The work is part of an ongoing renovation and addition project at the library, 15624 Central Ave. All three people in the library at the time of the leak were contractors, Mills said.
"The fire department responded very quickly and said there's no danger, nothing hazardous," Mills said. "But just as a precaution they recommended we stay closed today."
