Driver seriously hurt after freight train hits car in Lake Forest, Illinois; Metra trains delayed
A man was seriously injured and Metra trains in the north suburbs were facing extended delays, after a freight train hit a car late Friday morning in Lake Forest.
Police said, around 11:35 a.m., a Canadian Pacific Kansas City Southern freight train hit a car near Old Mill Road and Waukegan Road.
The driver of the car, a man in his 50s, was taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in serious condition.
The collision prompted Metra to temporarily halt inbound and outbound trains on the Milwaukee District North Line.
Metra trains were running again on Friday afternoon, but officials said riders could face extensive delays while normal service resumes.
