Freight Train Derails In Gurnee
GURNEE, Ill. (STMW) - Nobody was injured when 10 freight cars derailed Sunday morning in north suburban Gurnee.
Ten cars of a Union Pacific train from Chicago to St. Paul, Minn., derailed about 10:15 a.m. in Gurnee, Union Pacific spokesman Mark Davis said.
The Gurnee Fire Department said the derailment happened near 1910 Swanson Court in the northern suburb. Fire crews remained on the scene about noon.
Five of the derailed cars were empty, three were carrying lumber, one was carrying steel and one was filled with track rail, Davis said.
No injuries were reported, Davis said.
Unconfirmed dispatch reports indicate the derailment happened near Little Lady Foods and may have downed electrical lines.
The cause of the accident remains under investigation and it was not known Saturday afternoon when the train would be moving again, Davis said.
