Freezing Temps Hit Chicago, But Expect Highs In 60s Tuesday
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Temperatures dropped below freezing overnight in several parts of Chicagoland--ushering in a slightly earlier-than-normal end to the growing season.
By any measure, it's been an unusual year weather-wise. Jim Allsopp, of National Weather Service, says it was the third-warmest and 13th-driest summer on record.
Now, we have our first freeze, about a week or two earlier than normal.
However, the cold temperatures don't mean we are in for a chilly winter. However, we could see a bit more snow.
In fact, Allsopp says the NWS is predicting warmer than normal temperatures, but wetter than normal, though December.
As for today, CBS 2 meteorologist Megan Glaros reports, temperatures will warm into the mid 60s. Another cold front is expected in the middle of the week, dropping the high temperatures into the middle 50s.
Looking ahead to the weekend, there is a chance of showers, Glaros says.
