Freeman: Bears Just Now Catching Up With Packers

For only the second time in the history of the NFL, the Chicago Bears and the Green Bay Packers will meet in the playoffs. And not only that, they'll meet with a shot at the Super Bowl on the line.

With all the attention that this game is getting, as a rivalry and as a championship game, we can get a good perspective on what Packers' nation thinks of the Bears and how they got to this point.

"Chicago, they're not really sold on Jay Cutler, it's an up and down thing," former Packers' receiver Antonie Freeman said on the Mully and Hanley Show. "You know, it's a love-hate relationship with jay Cutler. One thing they did do through the draft is that they got Devin Hester, who has been a definite surprise.

"Julius Peppers, still one of the best defensive ends in the game. They did a good job of being able to keep Lance Briggs a number of years ago when he wanted out because of contract negotiations."

Those offseason additions and draft picks are what has gotten the Bears to this point. While this year's Bears team might be playing for a Championship, Freeman doesn't see the franchise as much of a winner.

"The Bears program has come along," Freeman said. "But this is their first time being in the mix, being there for the big game. You can pick up key acquisitions throughout free agency and the offseason. But is that enough to get you where you want to be? The Bears are just getting there."
