Free Admission At Shedd Aquarium On Game Day
CHICAGO (CBS) -- If you're going to the long-awaited Bears-Packers game at Soldier Field Sunday, the Shedd Aquarium wants you to stop by on the way.
The aquarium is offering free admission all day on Sunday. In addition to free general admission for the main galleries, discounts will be available for special exhibits, including the Abbott Oceanarium, the Wild Reef, and the Polar Play Zone.
The Shedd suggests that before you settle into your seat at Soldier Field in the 20-degree chill, you might warm up in the tropical climes of "Amazon Rising," among the piranhas and rays, turtles and crocodiles.
And you can see vicious sharks at Wild Reef before the ferocious Bears take the field against their archrivals.
If you're looking for other things to do on the Museum Campus, the Field Museum has its temporary exhibition on gold through March 6. You can see more than 550 gold items, from the coins of ancient Anatolia to the 2005 World Series trophy.
But don't worry – there won't be a gold and green Packers helmet in sight.
And at the far end of Solidarity Drive, you can gaze at the Galaxy Wall, learn about NASA's plans to return to the moon, and explore the night sky with Big Bird and Elmo from "Sesame Street" at the Adler Planetarium.
But if you're going to the game, you'd better get done by 2 p.m., or you'll be sitting out in the parking lot exploring the sky by yourself while the crowd cheers on Jay Cutler and Julius Peppers without you.
The Field Museum and the Adler Planetarium are both charging regular admission on Sunday.
And by the way, every Monday and Tuesday in January is also a free admission day at the Shedd Aquarium.
