Four-Year-Old Girl Among Three Shot On Northwest Side
CHICAGO (CBS) -- A four-year-old girl was among three people recovering on Monday after someone opened fire on a car last night on Chicago's Northwest Side.
Shyla Rivera, her 18-year-old brother Javiere Rosario, and a family friend were wounded near Central and Irving Park in the Portage Park neighborhood.
Shyla was struck in the thigh and was being treated at Advocated Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge. She was released from the hospital on Monday afternoon.
The car was riddled with bullet holes and the window was shot out.
The three were sitting in the car around 10:30 p.m. on Sunday when the shots were fired.
Her brother, who was also shot in the thigh, and the other victim, who was the driver and was shot in the arm and leg, were being treated at Illinois Masonic.
All three were listed in fair condition.
The family believes it was a case of mistaken identity.
"She has a little bit of a recovery to go," said Shyla's grandmother, Mirna Ferrer. "She's in a lot of pain, but she's going to be OK. We just want every body to respect our privacy for just a little bit because this is a lot to take in."
