Four Hurt In Six-Car Crash In Niles
CHICAGO (STMW) -- Four people were injured in a six-vehicle crash involving a pickup and a taxi in north suburban Niles on Wednesday night.
The driver of a Ford F-150 pickup was westbound on Dempster Street just before 11 p.m. when he crossed into the eastbound lanes and hit a taxi head-on, according to Niles police.
The initial collision caused four other cars to crash, a statement from police said.
Three people were taken to hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries, and the driver of the pickup, 27-year-old Melquiades Rodriguez, was treated on the scene, police said. He suffers from a medical condition which may have been a factor in the crash.
Rodriguez, of the 8600 block of Milwaukee Avenue in Niles, was charged with a misdemeanor count of driving without a valid driver's license and a felony count of driving with driver's license revoked, police said.
He was also cited for improper lane usage and driving in the wrong lane, police said. He is being held at the Niles police department pending a bond hearing.
Dempster was closed from Cumberland to Prospect for nearly two hours for investigation and clean-up, police said.
