Four Displaced In West Side Blaze

CHICAGO (STMW) - Four adults were displaced after a fire started at a West Side building Saturday morning.

The fire started about 10:30 a.m. on the first floor of a two-story building at 185 N. LaCrosse Ave., Fire Media Affairs spokesman Richard Rosado said.

Initial reports indicated people were trapped in the building, but responding firefighters found nobody inside, Rosado said.

The fire, which was elevated to a still-and-box alarm, was extinguished about 10:40 a.m., Rosado said. Nobody was injured.

The city's Department of Human Services contacted the American Red Cross of Greater Chicago, which provided food, clothing and shelter to four adults from two units, Red Cross spokeswoman Christine Heim said.

One of the units suffered major damage, Heim said. The other was affected, but not as badly.
