Four Charged In 2010 Triple Murder In Harvey
HARVEY, Ill. (CBS) -- Cook County prosecutors have charged four people in a grisly triple homicide three years ago in south suburban Harvey, following a botched home invasion and robbery.
Darryl Lloyd, 29; Faheem Norwood, 25; Dejuan Crockett, 23; and Brandon Griffin, 29, all have been charged with three counts of first-degree murder and one count of attempted murder. Lloyd appeared in bond court in Markham on Monday and was denied bail. The other three had been charged over the past month, and also were denied bond.
Donysha Stovall, 28; her daughter Clarisma Torrey, 9; and 16-year-old Shaquille Davis, a son of Stovall's boyfriend, were shot and killed on Oct. 24, 2010, in their home in the 300 block of West 151st Place in Harvey. Stovall's 4-year-old son, Nate Davis, was shot multiple times and left for dead, but survived.
"This was an extremely heinous and senseless crime that took the lives of this young mother and her children. We are very pleased that we have been able to bring charges in this case and hopefully some measure of justice for these victims," Cook County State's Attorney Anita Alvarez said in a written statement.
Lloyd, Norwood and Crockett are accused of breaking into the home, believing there was a large amount of cash and drugs in the apartment, while Griffin remained in their getaway car.
Prosecutors claimed the defendants confronted Stovall while she sat on her living room couch, then shot her multiple times. They then went into a bathroom in the apartment, and killed Davis as he was taking a shower.
They then allegedly found Clarisma in her bedroom, and shot her in the head, and then chased Nate into a bedroom, and shot him several times as he hid under the covers of the bed.
Nate survived, and Stovall's boyfriend was not at home at the time, prosecutors said.
After failing to find any drugs or money in the apartment, the defendants allegedly stole a large flat screen TV.
About 10 hours after the shootings, the four defendants were arrested for an unrelated carjacking. Three of them were convicted in that case, and were serving time in prison while the murder investigation continued. A fourth was awaiting trial in the carjacking when the murder charges were filed.
"From the moment that our officers responded to this crime scene, our Department has worked tirelessly to bring justice and closure for this heinous crime against this family and our community. The closure of this case is a true testament to the collaborative efforts of multiple law enforcement agencies," Harvey Police Chief Denard Evans said in a written statement.
The defendants' next court dates were not immediately available.
