Four Buildings At UIC Evacuated For Gas Leak
CHICAGO (STMW) -- Four buildings were evacuated at the University of Illionis at Chicago's West Side campus after a gas line was punctured Tuesday morning.
A Level 2 HazMat response was called when a construction company hit a small gas line at 900 W. Taylor St., according to Fire Media Affairs spokesman Will Knight.
Four buildings, including a science and engineering laboratory, and offices, an engineering research facility; and Burnham Hall, an academic building, were evacuated after the two-inch gas line was punctured, said Sherri McGinnis Gonzalez, a UIC spokesperson.
The Fire Department and gas company had secured the leak as of 10:35 a.m., according to fire media. No one was injured.
