Former Teacher Pleads Not Guilty To Sex Assault Of Student
WAUKEGAN, Ill. (STMW) -- A 30-year-old former Grant High School teacher pleaded not guilty Thursday to charges of sexually assaulting a student from the school.
Amber Kraus, of Mundelein, pleaded not guilty in Lake County Circuit Court to one count of criminal sexual assault, a Class 1 felony, and two counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse, a Class 2 felony.
Kraus was arrested this fall and charged with sexual assault of a student between the ages of 13 and 17 at her former home in Grayslake.
She remains free on a $100,000 bond. She resigned her position at the school in October.
Grant High School Superintendent Christine Sefcik said in a press release after Kraus's arrest that police immediately were contacted and the incident appears to have been isolated.
The case was handled by Grayslake police once it was determined that the contact with the student occurred in that village and police jurisdiction.
A trial date of Feb. 7 has been set for Kraus with a pretrial hearing scheduled Jan 21.
