Former State Lawmaker Calls For More Transparency In Applications For Medical Marijuana Dispensaries
(CBS) -- A former lawmaker says she wants to know who's in the running for licenses to grow and distribute medical marijuana in Illinois.
The chair of the Campaign for Political Reform Susan Garrett says the new cannabis law indeed hides the name of companies and shareholders seeking permits to grow and distribute medical marijuana.
"Organizations or companies that are politically connected and because they have clout they may have more access and the ability to get the contract for these dispensaries. What about somebody else that doesn't have those political connections?"

Garrett says the hundreds of millions Colorado is collecting in taxes on recreational marijuana just hints as the size of the industry likely in Illinois. She says voters have a right to know the names of those getting in on the ground floor in Illinois.
She hopes to have legislation and sponsors to open up the process by the fall veto session.
