Former South Sider Jenks Put On Disabled List
BOSTON (AP) Former Chicago White Sox closer, and current Boston Red Sox reliever Bobby Jenks has struggled so far this season. After his right cramped up during a recent loss to the Los Angeles Angels, Boston placed him on the disabled list.
The Red Sox said Thursday that Jenks (1-2) has a strained right biceps and placed him on the DL retroactive to Monday. He cramped up while warming during Boston's 13-inning loss Wednesday.
The right-hander has a 9.35 ERA in 11 appearances this season.
Boston also placed right-handed reliever Dan Wheeler on the 15-day DL with a strained left calf. Wheeler allowed a double, home run and walked one while facing four batters during the Angels' 5-3 win, which was interrupted for more than 2 1/2 hours because of rain.
The Red Sox called up right-hander Scott Atchison and left-hander Rich Hill from Triple-A Pawtucket.
