Former Employee Charged With Stealing From Special Needs Group
CAROL STREAM, Ill. (CBS) -- It's a case that the DuPage County State's Attorney calls "disgraceful": A supervisor at a charity for people with special needs has been accused of stealing thousands of dollars over four-and-a-half years.
DuPage County State's Attorney Robert Berlin said it's not simply a case of an employee stealing money, it's that the organization that was the victim was the Western DuPage Special Recreation Association in Carol Stream, which helps children and adults with special needs.

"Really that's what makes this case so aggravating and so disgraceful," he said.
Berlin said the theft was discovered after 33-year-old Kurt Hinterkopf was fired in April.
"He was actually fired for looking at porn on his computer. Once that happened, they went through his desk and they saw all these envelopes in there and realized then there was money missing," Berlin said.
In all, Hinterkopf allegedly stole more than $8,000. Berlin said it's a significant amount of money for a not-for-profit that relies on donations for its programs.
