Former Chicago Police Supt. Weis Leaves Crime Commission
CHICAGO (AP) -- Former Chicago Police Superintendent Jody Weis has announced his resignation as president of the Chicago Crime Commission.
Weis, who held the position for eight months, said in an announcement Friday he left the commission to pursue interests in teaching, research and private industry.
In his statement, Weis said he has been fortunate to have been a part of the crime commission and learning of the "role nonprofit organizations can play in support of the men and women on the front lines keeping our city safe."
Weis is a former FBI agent who took over as Chicago's top cop in 2008. He resigned last year when his contract came to an end.
Commission chairman J.R. Davis will take over as president of the organization.
