Former Bears Put Up Big Numbers In Week 2 For New Teams
(CBS) The Bears knew they let some quality talent leave this past offseason as they planned for their long-term future, and Week 2 of the NFL season certainly reflected that.
A host of former Bears put up big numbers this week and helped their new teams find success. Here's a look:
-- Matt Forte rushed for 100 yards and three touchdowns on 30 carries and added two catches to lead the Jets to a 37-31 win against the Bills. Through two games, his 196 rushing yards are second-best in the NFL. Looking to invest in their younger players in the backfield, the Bears let Forte leave in free agency after a storied career in Chicago.
-- Complementing Forte was receiver Brandon Marshall, who had six catches for 101 yards. He's in his second season with the Jets, as the Bears traded him in March 2015.
-- Martellus Bennett had five catches for 114 yards and a score in New England's 31-24 win against Miami. He has the fifth-most receiving yards among tight ends in the league. The Bears traded Bennett to the Patriots back in March to move up two rounds in the draft, from the sixth to the fourth.
-- Center Matt Slauson helped pave the way for the Chargers offense to total 357 yards in a 38-14 victory against the Jaguars. San Diego has the No. 2 scoring offense in the league early on. The Bears surprisingly released Slauson on May 1, just after the conclusion of the draft.
