Barrington Grad Talks On-Camera Before He's Charged With NY Murder
(CBS) --He was caught on camera at the crime scene, after an 18-year-old girl was strangled.
Now, a recent Barrington High School graduate has been charged with her death.
Eighteen-year-old Maxwell Sherman actually smoked a cigarette and talked on camera about the murder –- one day before he was arrested.
Sherman graduated from Barrington High School this year. He was staying at his parents' summer home in New York's Long Beach when the murder took place.
CBS 2's Brad Edwards reports.
His alleged victim – Lauren Daverin -- was found nude, on a pond's foot-bridge in New York.
A CBS 2 sister station stumbled upon Sherman, who said, "I met her for like five minutes."
He nervously devoured a cigarette, a sheen of sweat on his brow.
There is no known connection to the woman he allegedly murdered. Sherman's parents, in New York, declined comment to reporters.
It's unknown what accused killer Sherman thinks. But witness Sherman says nothing seemed amiss the night of the killing.
"Everyone was chilling, hanging out," he said.
His only known scrape with the law was three years ago. The then-15-year-old paid a $200 fine for possession of tobacco by a minor.
