Forman: Bulls Focused On 'Bigger Picture'
(WSCR) The loss of Derrick Rose will undoubtedly change the look of the Bulls during the 2012-13 season, but that doesn't mean the Bulls will overhaul their entire roster.
After yesterday's press conference, it's clear Rose will miss the majority of next season. General manager Gar Forman and the rest of the Bulls front office will look at multiple ways to cover the gap left by Rose's absence.
"Obviously we've taken a step back in the short term," Forman told The Mully and Hanley Show. "Derrick Rose won't be replaced at whatever point he comes back, sometime next year. From our standpoint, we've put a lot of time and effort into building this team. We like the core of this team that we have under contract. Every decision we've made up to this point, we've looked at it as a long-term decision. We really feel built around Derrick and Joakim (Noah) and some of the other guys that we have. There's a long window of opportunity to have success with this team. Decision we make this summer will be based on long term, not short term. We're not going to make any decisions that affects our long-term health for a short-term benefit. Derrick is going to be back and Derrick is going to be back as the same Derrick Rose. We don't know exactly when, but we want to look at the big picture as far as building the team around him."

Forman also said the Bulls aren't afraid to go into the luxury tax for the right player.
"I'm confident that we will go into the (luxury) tax if it makes basketball sense, as far as our long-term vision with this team," Forman said. "If it does, I think we'll go into the tax, but I don't think we'll go into the tax for a short term plug-in. We're going to protect our assets and continue to build this team to have success for the next five to seven to 10 years, built around Derrick and some of our young pieces."
