Foreclosures In 3 Suburban Counties Are State's Highest
(STMW) - Kendall, Kane and Will counties ranked first, second and third, respectively, in foreclosure filings in Illinois for the third quarter of this year.
Grundy County ranked 15th.
Foreclosure filings totaled 887 in Kendall County, up 2 percent from the second quarter and 15.34 percent from the third quarter of 2009, according to Irvine, Calif.-based RealtyTrac.
Other foreclosure filing totals released this week included:
Kane County: 3,032, down 6.36 percent from the second quarter, up 14.03 percent from a year ago.
Will County: 3,586, up 22.64 percent from the second quarter and 23.83 percent from a year ago.
Grundy County: 86, down 10.42 percent from the second quarter, up 8.86 percent from a year ago.
Foreclosure filings consist of default notices, scheduled auctions and bank repossessions.
Nationwide, 930,437 properties received foreclosure filings in the third quarter, almost 4 percent higher than the second quarter, but 1 percent less than the third quarter of 2009.
One in every 139 U.S. housing units received a foreclosure filing during the quarter.
Illinois was fourth in the nation in third-quarter foreclosure filings with 47,802. California was first, Florida was second and Arizona was third.
"We expect to see a dip in those bank repossessions — and possibly earlier stages of the foreclosure process — in the fourth quarter as several major lenders have halted foreclosure sales in some states while they review irregularities in foreclosure-processing documentation that has been called into question in recent weeks," said RealtyTrac CEO James J. Saccacio.
