For Cubs, Accountability Will Lead To Success

It hasn't been a complete overhaul of the Chicago Cubs team, but there's already a different feel around spring training.

Much of that new feel can be attributed to manager Mike Quade and the new mentality he's brought with him. And that mentality is simple: accountability matters.

"It's important to hold each other accountable, to respect each other," Cubs first baseman Carlos Pena said on the Danny Mac Show. "And the same way, you know, I'm going to play hard for my team. I'm going to play hard for my teammates. And you expect your teammates to do the same thing for you. That's kind of the relationship that we all have. You know, if I'm at second base, I want to make sure I score on that single, from whoever is hitting. If I'm at first base and there's a single to right I want to get to third base for the next hitter, so that a fly ball will score me. I'm helping my teammates out. I'm helping my ball club out. And of course helping my self out. So it just all works in conjunction.

"Like I said the better we communicate, the better we pull for each other, you know, the better team we're going to be at the end. So that's what it's all about. It's not about grabbing the leadership roles at all. It's just about truly caring about each other and about what we want to do, and working towards that common goal."
