For Blackhawks, Get To The Playoffs And Anything Can Happen

Only six points separates the fourth place team and the 12th place team in the NHL's Western Conference. As a result, the Chicago Blackhawks still have time to secure a comfortable playoff seed.

"There's room to move," Steve Konroyd, former Blackhawk and current analyst, said on the Mully and Hanley Show. "The problem is that everyone else is moving too...So it's so tough to jockey for position."

Through their first 50 games of the season the Blackhawks have earned 56 points and sit in seventh place as the league enters its All-Star break. All together the Blackhawks will have six days off from game action and most of the players will be able to rest up and prepare for the second half push. The team has four All-Star selections: Jonathan Toews, Patrick Kane, Duncan Keith and Patrick Sharp.

"It's going to be exciting," Konroyd said of the rest of the Blackhawks' season. "We play St. Louis, Detroit, Detroit our last three games. They're going to be so important and it'll come right down to the last few games."

The Blackhawks are hardly Stanley Cup favorites at this point in the season, but if they're able to reach the playoffs they have enough talent and experience to do some damage.

"Just making the playoffs right now is the most important thing the Blackhawks have to worry about," Konroyd said. "It's doable. We need anywhere from between 36 and 40 points. Somewhere in the low 90s to mid-90-points will get you the 8 seed. And then I think it's a new season and then I think other teams would really be concerned about playing the Blackhawks."
