Cold Has Moved On, But Wet Week Lies Ahead

CHICAGO (CBS) - The cold weather that plagued last week is behind us at last, but a wet and rainy week lies ahead.
CBS 2 Meteorologist Megan Glaros says showers and thunderstorms are expected before the end of the day.
Early Monday morning, temperatures remained in the mid-40s, and skies were overcast, but dry. But passing showers are expected off and on throughout the day.
The jet stream is parked to the south of the Chicago area, moving a low-pressure system forward and causing severe weather in some areas. The greatest chance for severe weather is expected in downstate Illinois, but heavy rain will fall in the immediate Chicago area too.
The heavy rain and possible thunderstorms will come in Monday evening.
Meanwhile, a flood warning remains in effect for the Fox River in Lake County, according to the National Weather Service's website. Additionally, a flood advisory continues for the Iroquois River in Kankakee County and the Illinois River in Morris.
The Des Plaines River near Lincolnshire is also the subject of a flood warning until Wednesday evening. As of 8:45 a.m. Monday, the river was already 0.1 inches above flood stage, at 11.1 feet.
The showers Monday could produce an additional inch of rain, and don't look for them to come to an end anytime soon.
Active weather is expected to continue all week long, with showers every day. A break is expected on Friday, but showers are set to return over the weekend.
