Flood Warning For Little Calumet River In Munster
MUNSTER, Ind. (CBS) -- Residents who were devastated by flooding more than two years ago, are keeping a close eye on rising Little Calumet River, following relentless rains over the past two days.
A flood warning has been issued for the Little Calumet in the northwest Indiana town.
At 6 a.m. on Thursday, the water level measured 11.6 feet and is expected to rise to near 12.9 feet later this afternoon. The river is expected to then fall below the 12-foot flood stage tonight. Minor flooding is expected.
In September, 2008, thousand of homes in Munster and nearby towns were flooded after torrential rains swamped the area. Since that time, a series of flood walls have been constructed to alleviate the flooding danger.
