Flight From Midway Has Nation's Worst On-Time Performance
CHICAGO (CBS) -- The nation's airlines slogged through a lot of cancellations in April, hurting their on-time performance.
As CBS 2's Kris Habermehl reports, the flight with the worst performance of all originates from Midway International Airport.
April was the most recent well-scrutinized month for the U.S. Department of Transportation study; figures for May have yet to be released.
There was good news in the form of fewer mishandled bags, but higher baggage checking fees kept the total number of bags down anyway.
But cancellations rose, and on-time performance dropped across the board.
The worst-performing flight of all was the Southwest Airlines flight from Midway to Newark Liberty International Airport, flight 103, which was late 90 percent of the time, the Chicago Tribune reported.
ExpressJet had the worst on-time performance over all, with only 68 percent of its flights coming in on time, the Tribune reported. JetBlue followed with a 68.4 percent rate, while Hawaiian Airlines posted the best record with an on-time rate of 94.1 percent, the newspaper reported.
For a flight to be considered on-time, it must arrive within 15 minutes of the carrier's specified operating time.
