Flashback #30: Joey Meyer Fired From DePaul (1997)
As of 670 The Score's 20th Anniversary on January 3rd, the station has begun to reveal (in chronological order) the Top 100 Chicago Sports Stories that have occurred since they first went on the air 20 years ago. April 28, 1997 - Joey Meyer fired from DePaul
Following the 1996-97 season, where the Blue Demons finished 3-23, the university fired head coach Joey Meyer.
Meyer, then 48, had spent 30 years at the school as a player, assistant coach and then head coach. He was a player and assistant under his legendary father, Ray, then replaced the elder Meyer when he retired in 1984.
In his final season as head coach, Joey Meyer's team lost its final 13 games after finishing the previous season with an 11-18 mark.
Under Joey Meyer, DePaul was 231-158.
