May 17, 1992 - Bulls defeat the Knicks in the NBA Playoffs
Entering the 1992 Eastern Conference Semi-Finals, the Bulls had one thing on their mind: bringing the city of Chicago its second-straight NBA Championship.
To earn their second ring, though, they had to go through the New York Knicks, led by future Hall of Famer, Patrick Ewing. This seven-game series between the two teams ignited a decade-long rivalry that extended through the 90s.
Chicago owned bragging rights over New York after the Bulls swept the Knicks in the first round of the 1991 Eastern Conference playoffs. It was a new season now, and the Knicks were ready for revenge.
After finishing the regular season, the Bulls earned home-court advantage throughout the playoffs but dropped Game 1 to the Knicks, 94-89. The Bulls took Games 2 and 3, and the teams split Games 4 and 5, giving the Bulls the 3-2 advantage heading into Game 6.
Each of the first five games were decided by eight points or fewer. Tensions ran high during the seven-game series, as multiple arguments broke out between Michael Jordan, Xavier McDaniel, Scottie Pippen, and Greg Anthony.
In Game 6, the Knicks -- with the help of the Madison Square Garden crowd -- took down the Bulls, 100-86, forcing one of only two Game 7s the Bulls would face during their run of six championship in the 90s.
Game 7 brought both teams back to Chicago where the Bulls steamrolled the Knicks, 110-81, behind 42 points from Jordan, and 12 points from B.J. Armstrong off the bench.
The win gave the Bulls their second-straight Eastern Conference Finals appearance.
