Flash Flood Watch Issued For Chicago
CHICAGO (STMW) - The showers and thunderstorms that moved into the Chicago area Wednesday are expected to continue, prompting a flash flood watch to be issued.
A flash flood watch is in effect through Thursday morning for portions of northern Illinois -- including Cook, DuPage, Kane, Lake and Will counties, according to the National Weather Service's website.
A flash flood watch means that conditions may develop that lead to flash flooding, the weather service said. Showers and thunderstorms with heavy rainfall have already left more than an inch and a half of rain.
The thunderstorms are likely to continue until early Thursday, the weather service said. As much as a quarter inch of new rainfall is possible.
The weather service is predicting a 70 percent chance of rain during the day Thursday and a 40 percent chance of showers at night. Temperatures will be between 42 and 51 degrees.
