At Least 11 Shot In City Since Wednesday Night
CHICAGO (STMW) -- At least 11 people have been wounded in shootings throughout the city within about a 27-hour span from Wednesday night through early Friday.
The victims included a 16-year-old girl shot while riding in a car on the South Side, and a 25-year-old woman critically wounded in a drive-by in the West Side Austin neighborhood late Thursday.
The woman was standing on a sidewalk in the 200 block of North Latrobe about 11:25 p.m. when a dark-colored sedan drove past, and someone inside fired multiple rounds at the group, police said. The woman was struck in the abdomen and taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County in critical condition, according to police. There were no other reported injuries.
The 16-year-old girl was shot while riding in the backseat of a car in the Fuller Park neighborhood Wednesday night. The driver of the car pulled into a gas station in the 4200 block of South Wentworth Avenue about 9:40 p.m. when he noticed a dark-colored SUV, police said. Moments later, shots erupted from the SUV, and one of the bullets struck the 16-year-old in her backside. She was taken to Stroger Hospital, where she was listed in good condition, police said.
About 11:10 p.m. on Wednesday, a 32-year-old man was wounded in a shooting in the Northwest Side Logan Square neighborhood. He was in the 3000 block of West Fullerton when someone in a passing vehicle opened fire. The man was taken to Norwegian American Hospital in stable condition with a gunshot wound to the back, according to police.
About 12:15 a.m. Thursday, a 19-year-old man was riding a bike near the 6900 block of South Michigan when several men on foot pulled out guns and shot at him. At least one bullet struck him in the back and he was taken to Stroger Hospital in stable condition, police said.
Most recently, a 23-year-old man was shot in the jaw in the 3200 block of West Roosevelt Road about 12:50 a.m. Friday, police said. The victim, who is affiliated with a gang, was taken in serious condition to Mount Sinai Hospital, police said.
