Five People Shot In City Overnight
CHICAGO (STMW) -- At least five people -- including a 16-year-old girl -- were wounded in shootings throughout the city Wednesday night through early Thursday morning.
The girl was shot while she rode in the backseat of a car in the South Side Fuller Park neighborhood Wednesday evening.
The driver of the car pulled into a gas station in the 4200 block of South Wentworth Avenue about 9:40 p.m. when he noticed a dark-colored SUV, police News Affairs Officer Hector Alfaro said.
Moments later, shots erupted from the SUV, police said. One of the bullets struck the 16-year-old girl in her backside.
She was taken to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County where she was listed in good condition, police said.
About 11:10 p.m., a man was shot in the Northwest Side Logan Square neighborhood.
He was in the 3000 block of West Fullerton Avenue when a vehicle drove by and someone inside opened fire, police News Affairs Officer Jose Estrada said. The 32-year-old man was taken in "stable" condition to Norwegian American Hospital with a gunshot wound to the back.
About 11:30 p.m., a male whose age was not known was shot in the hand in the South Side Roseland neighborhood. He was in the 10200 block of South Prairie Avenue when he was shot in the hand, Alfaro said. The victim was taken to Roseland Community Hospital where he was listed in good condition.
Early Thursday a 38-year-old man was shot in the West Side Austin neighborhood.
The man was in the 1600 block of North Latrobe Avenue at 1:30 a.m. when he heard shots and felt pain, according to Alfaro. The victim was taken in stable condition to West Suburban Medical Center in Oak Park with a gunshot wound to the right leg.
Also early Thursday a 19-year-old man was shot while riding a bike in the South Side Greater Grand Crossing neighborhood. He was riding near the 6900 block of South Michigan Avenue about 12:14 a.m. when several men on foot pulled out guns and shot at him, Alfaro said.
At least one bullet struck the 19-year-old in the back, police said.
The man was taken to Stroger Hospital, where his condition was stable, police said.
