First Chicago River Boathouse Opens In Chinatown
CHICAGO (STMW) -- The Mayor's office announced Sunday the opening of the first new boathouse along the Chicago River opened in Chinatown.
Ping Tom Memorial Park, located at 300 W. 19th St., will be home to the new 2,485 square-foot boathouse, with two more to be built at Clark Park and River Park on the Northwest Side, according to a release from the Mayor's office.
"These boathouses, beginning with this one at Ping Tom Park, will help increase recreational activities and greater enjoyment of all that the Chicago River has to offer residents and visitors," Mayor Rahm Emanuel said in a statement.
The Ping Tom boathouse was funded through public and private investments, according to the Mayor's office. The boathouse will feature community rooms, concessions, fitness centers, and kayak and canoe storage with direct river access.
