Fires Claim Two Lives In Mt. Prospect, Bolingbrook
CHICAGO (CBS) -– Two early morning fires broke out in Mount Prospect overnight and one has been deadly.
The fire department says they were called to a house on North School Street around 4:30 a.m. and found a fire in the basement. No one was hurt.
But about an hour later, firefighters responded to a report of smoke at an apartment on Cannon Drive.
During a search, firefighters found one victim who was pronounced dead at the scene.
The cause of the fire is under investigation and the release of the identification of the victim is pending notification of next of kin.
In another fatal fire, a woman who may have fallen asleep while smoking a cigarette died at her Bolingbrook home.
Mary Mullen, 52, of Kingston Road, was found by firefighters Friday afternoon in her burning residence and pronounced dead on the scene.
Authorities say Mullen was lying on the floor and was not burned but apparently suffered smoke inhalation.
