Firefighters Battle South Side Blaze

CHICAGO (STMW) - Firefighters battled a blaze Sunday afternoon at a South Side building thought to be vacant.

Crews responded to the fire at 6630 S. Drexel Ave. and called a called a still-and-box alarm at 4:02 p.m., Fire Media Affairs spokesman Rich Rosado said.

Sixty-five firefighters with 20 pieces of equipment took about half an hour to put out the fire that started on the first floor of the building, Rosado said. Officials think the building may be vacant.

Flames spread to an occupied building next door at 6626 S. Drexel Ave., but caused only slight damage, Rosado said.

No one was injured, and the cause of the fire remains is under investigation Sunday evening.
