Firefighter Injured In Extra-Alarm West Side Fire
CHICAGO (STMW) - A firefighter was injured while battling a blaze that fully engulfed a vacant Garfield Park building Tuesday night on the West Side.
The fire, which was elevated to a two-alarm blaze with an EMS Plan 1 response for additional ambulances, was reported about 9 p.m. in a two-story brick building at 4200 W. Wilcox St., Fire Media Affairs spokesman Quention Curtis said.
Firefighters found the blaze throughout the vacant building and extinguished it about 9:30 p.m., Curtis said.
A firefighter was injuried and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital with non-life threatening injuries, Curtis said. No other injuries were reported.
Curtis said an EMS Plan 1 was called as a precautionary measure as firefighters ensured the fire did not spread to building on its east and west sides.
Crews remained at the scene at 9:40 p.m.
