UPDATED 03/04/11 6:20 a.m.
CHICAGO (CBS) -Two people, including a Chicago firefighter, were hurt in a fire overnight in the Edgewater neighborhood.
The fire broke out just after 10:30 p.m. Thursday in a two-story brick home at 5719 N. Ridge Ave, according to Fire Media Affairs Cmdr. Will Knight. Flames swept through the first and second floors of the home.
The fire also spread to a two-story building at 5717 N. Ridge Ave., Knight said.
A firefighter suffered minor injuries was taken to Saint Francis Hospital in Evanston. A woman was also taken to the Saint Francis for observation.
The firefighting efforts also blocked Ridge Avenue, which is a main feeder route to Lake Shore Drive from the northwest.
As it happens, a Chicago firehouse used to be located directly across the street from the scene at 5714 N. Ridge Ave. But while the building still stands, it is no longer used as a firehouse.
The fire was extinguished at 11:05 p.m., Knight said. The cause remains under investigation.
